Congratulations! You’ve just completed your first laser tattoo removal treatment with MJ Driver Laser Company. One of the most important parts of the laser tattoo removal process is aftercare - so we’re going to run through some of the key things you’ll need to keep in mind post-treatment that will keep your skin clean and healthy, and provide the best outcome for your tattoo removal or lightening process.

Laser tattoo removal essentially creates a minor skin wound, which needs to be cared for properly to avoid infection. Aesthetically, you’re also going to want to look after your skin so that you can achieve the best possible results for full removal or a cover-up. Here’s what we recommend.

During the first 24 hours.

  • Most people will experience a very normal scabbing and blistering over the treated area within 24 hours of receiving laser removal. A cold compress can be used during this time to relieve any inflammation, swelling or discomfort.

  • You can take over-the-counter pain relief if you are feeling pain or discomfort. Don’t worry, this will pass.

  • Avoid super hot showers, saunas, spas or intense physical activity.

Over the next 3 days.

  • Keep the area clean and dry. When you’re washing the area, use an antibacterial soap and pat dry with a towel.

  • You may apply a thin layer of Vitamin E cream (not Paw Paw ointment!) over the area twice a day for up to 7 days.

  • Don’t pick the scab, pop any blisters or touch the area unnecessarily.

  • Avoid high-pressure water hitting the treated area. Continue to avoid spas, pools or saunas to reduce the chance of infection.

Over the next 1-2 weeks.

  • Avoid direct or prolonged exposure to the sun. Getting sunburned on your laser treatment area would be a really bad idea. Don’t fake tan or get tanning injections either. Now is a good time to embrace your natural skin colour!

  • Continue to avoid spas, pools or saunas to reduce the chance of infection.

  • Sunscreen may be applied over the treated area when exposed to sun.

  • If you want to use nourishing skincare after one week to help with itchiness or to soothe, you may. Rosehip oil or bio oil are fine.

  • Avoid shaving over the treated area.

  • Pay attention to the area. If it looks aggravated or infected, contact your laser technician.

  • Drink lots of water! It’s good for you anyway.

Your MJ Driver Laser technician will talk through correct aftercare practices with you during your appointment. Remember, we’re here to help! If you have any questions or concerns after your treatment, please don’t hesitate to contact us. Doctor Google or that guy in the bar who’s had heaps of laser are not the right sources of information.
